Crap that's been happening

Music: Green Day-When I Come Around

Well, it's been quite a while since I updated the ol' blog, so here I am. ^_^ My sister Tina got the job in Eau Claire, so she will be moving out soon. Which means that I may have to find another apartment. I am, of course, still seeking a job, but I remain optimistic that I will find something soon. About the apartment, though: I've located two so far. One is $600/month (utilities included, with a coin-operated washer and dryer), but it's still way too fuckin' expensive. Plus I wouldn't be able to keep my cat, which will only be an option if I become really desperate. The other one is $425/month, which doesn't seem too bad, but I'd have to pay another $425 for a security deposit, and another $425 for a pet deposit so I can keep my cat. That's a good $1275 just to move in, folks. The other 2 considerations would be renting a room for $325 (again, I probably wouldn't be able to keep Houdini), and a 2-room duplex (which would probably be incredibly expensive). At this rate I'm just considering staying put and putting up fliers for a roommate.

Anyhoo, I spent last Friday and Saturday in Eau Claire, for my younger sister's 21st birthday. It was probably the first time that the whole family was together in a very long time. We had dinner at an Italian restaurant called Mona Lisa's. It was pricy, but very good. Then we had cake at my sister's apartment. ^^

I've been reading Bushwacked by Molly Ivins and Lou DuBose. I will post more about that when I have finished.

Flogging Molly-Drunken Lullabies

Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Five hundred years like Gelignite
Have blown us all to hell
What savior rests while on his cross we die
Forgotten freedom burns
Has the Shepard led his lambs astray
to the bigot and the gun

Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin' drunken lullabies

I watch and stare as Rosin`s eyes
Turn a darker shade of red
And the bullet with this sniper lie
In their bloody gutless cell
Must we starve on crumbs from long ago
Through these bars of men made steel
Is it a great or little thing we fought
Knelt the conscience blessed to kill

Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin' drunken lullabies

Ah, but maybe it`s the way you were taught
Or maybe it`s the way we fought
But a smile never grins without tears to begin
For each kiss is a cry we all lost
Though there is nothing left to gain
But for the banshee that stole the grave
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin' drunken lullabies

I sit in and dwell on faces past
Like memories seem to fade
No colour left but black and white
And soon will all turn grey
But may these shadows rise to walk again
With lessons truly learnt
When the blossom flowers in each our hearts
Shall beat a new found flame

Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin' drunken lullabies
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin' drunken lullabies
Singin' drunken lullabies

Hotel Rwanda

I just got finished watching this movie. There are simply no words that can be used to describe it. I have also never cried so hard during a movie in my entire life. For those who are unaware as to what this movie is about, it involves the 100-day-long genocide that happened in Rwanda in 1994, where a Hutu militia called the Interahamwe killed almost one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus, which ended when Tutsi rebels overthrew the Hutu regime. However, it mostly focused on how Paul Rusesabagina, a Hutu and a manager at the Mille Collines Hotel in Kigali, managed to save over 1,200 Tutsi and Hutu refugees. He managed this by allowing them to stay in the hotel, as well as bribing certain higher-ranking officials.

This is an extremely intense movie, and the way that Rusesabagina saved all those people is quite similar to the way that Oskar Schindler saved a great number of Jews during World War II (as seen in Schindler's List). The film also has a focus on the relationship between Rusesabagina and his Tutsi wife, Tatiana, and their children. Also interesting is how the rest of the world seemed disinclined to do nothing. This happened when I was about 10/11, and I remember seeing hardly anything about this on the news (then again, I was 11, and rather disinclined to pay attention to the news at the time). All in all, a very emotional, moving movie.

Jack Thompson needs to be stopped

Well, I guess it was only a matter of time before Jack Ass went after Killer 7:

Seriously, dude. I've seen the sex scene in question. It's not really that explicit. I mean, Titanic was more explicit in the sex area than this game, and contained actual, you know, nudity. Then again, Titanic is several years old and movies are considered "art" whereas video games aren't (which I think is complete bullshit, since Killer 7 is far more artistic than most action movies on the market). I think it very much deserves the M rating it was given, not the AO rating Mr. Thompson (who's getting his information from a review of the game, and not actually playing it, by the way) thinks it deserves.

In other news, schaef (my younger sister) and her ex-boyfriend came up for the Cultural Festival in Duluth. We had a great time, and went to Amazing Grace Cafe for dinner. Then we sat around and watched Queer As Folk. I love Emmet. He's so adorable and flamboyant. ^_^

Woo hoo!

I have a blog! Isn't that simply wonderful?
